Stacey Simpkin

Stacey Simpkin’s interest in people and cultures has taken her on a journey, which began with a Bachelor of Arts from Otago University majoring in Anthropology. She left New Zealand in a search for new places, and after a time travelling settled in Japan. Her 13 years there provided a platform of rich experiences, uncovering layer after layer of both Japan and herself.

Upon returning home four years ago, Stacey decided to explore her long held love of photography. She became a full time student at Unitec and graduated with a Diploma in Contemporary Photography. Stacey’s work combines her interests in sub cultures, life experiences and people with photography to produce engaging bodies of work like the Rangitoto series.

A highlight for Stacey this year was winning the 2013 Image Nation Annual Photography Award for her portrait series 'Garage'. Stacey will be showing a selection of images from the series at the Guerrilla Galleries exhibition.
